About Us

Backpack On Productions was founded in 2017 by Laura Burzacott and Jane Patterson. Laura and Jane are passionate about community engagement, and creating joyful and enriching experiences for audiences, as well as fulfilling opportunities for artists. They are co-producers of the Bright Cabaret Festival, and in 2019 produced the Gasworks Cabaret Project.

Laura Burzacott

Laura Burzacott is an actor, singer and comedian, committed to telling new Australian stories and creating entertaining cabaret and music theatre. In recent years she has started producing cabaret events around Victoria, including the inaugural Bright Cabaret Festival in 2018. Laura is a driving force behind cabaret a cappella group Ginger and Tonic, touring Australia in the award winning 'Desperate and Dateless' and 'For Love or Money.' As a founding member of the Present Tense Ensemble, Laura performed in 'Chants Des Catacombes' (Melbourne/ Adelaide/ Castlemaine seasons), ‘Margaret Fulton Queen of the Dessert’ (Theatre Works) and ‘Ricercar’ (Theatre Works). Other credits include ‘Blue Angel’ (big hART and Tasmanian International Arts Festival), the national tour of 'Long Gone Lonesome Cowgirls' and 'Standing on Ceremony: the Gay Marriage Plays' (Ellis Productions) and ‘Los Nachos Trios’ (Ballarat Cabaret Festival & Noosa Cabaret Festival.)

Jane Patterson

With a background in music, Jane Patterson began her training early, starting violin lessons at age 4, and holds a Bachelor of Music and Arts in classical violin performance from Monash University. She is the founder, Musical Director and Producer of Ginger and Tonic, and has been producing the group’s cabaret shows at festivals around Australia since the group formed in 2010. In 2015, she received a Green Room Award for Best Musical Direction in a Cabaret for Ginger and Tonic’s Desperate and Dateless. In 2014/2015, Jane performed the role of Ex-Girlfriend in the GFO/MTC co-production of Once the musical. Jane is an experienced choral director, and was the musical director of community choir Harambee for four years. She is passionate about vocal music and harmony singing, and believes in the power of group singing to connect people and uplift the human spirit. She co-founded Backpack On Productions with Laura Burzacott in 2017, with the intention of creating enriching and inspiring experiences for Australian artists and audiences.
